This summer, I travelled with my daughter to Gujo

This summer, I travelled with my daughter to Gujo Hachiman, where we joined the Bon Odori dance—a festival with over 400 years of history.

In Japan, mid-August (13th–16th) is Obon, a time to welcome and honour the spirits of our ancestors. Across the country, people gather in yukata, joining festivals, fireworks, and Bon dances. In Gujo, the Bon Odori continues for an entire month, and during Obon itself, the dancing goes on from 8pm until 4am.

Astrologically, this season coincides with the so-called “Dog Days” abroad, and in the spiritual community, the Lion’s Gate Portal. This year, Jupiter and Venus were both in Cancer, emphasising themes of family, gratitude, and connection with our roots—perfectly aligned with the essence of Obon.

Japan’s summer is also a time of remembrance: Hiroshima on 8 August, Nagasaki on 9 August, and the end of WWII on 15 August, right in the middle of Obon. For us, this season holds both joy and reflection.

In Gujo, I saw visitors from overseas dancing in yukata with bright smiles. It truly felt like a scene of world peace. I hope many more people will experience this unique atmosphere.

Mars Enters Cancer on September 5th

Mars takes approximately two years to orbit the Sun, but it retrogrades once every two years and two months.

During the retrograde period, Mars is physically closer to Earth. As the seasons progress, you'll be able to see Mars shining even more brightly and redder than usual around midnight.

Facing Pluto: Danger! Beware of Conflicts

This year, Mars will retrograde from the early degrees of Leo to the late degrees of Cancer, meaning it will stay in Cancer for over five months—from September 5th to November 4th, and then again from January 7th to April 18th next year. (Normally, Mars stays in a sign for about a month and a half.)

Moreover, Mars, during its long stay from the late degrees of Cancer to the early degrees of Leo, will be facing Pluto, which is positioned from the late degrees of Capricorn to the early degrees of Aquarius.

The opposition between Pluto and Mars is a configuration that hints at conflicts, making it likely that we’ll see various disputes arise in the world from this autumn through next spring.

Given that this period coincides with the U.S. presidential election, there is a strong sense of impending turmoil. There's also the possibility of escalating conflicts in Ukraine and Palestine.

In addition, you might find yourself clashing with people in your close-knit organizations, groups, or within your family. Especially since Cancer, the sign where Mars is positioned, represents family, women, and children, this is a time to be particularly cautious of family disputes.

Cancer also represents the stomach, so be mindful of overeating and the potential for resulting inflammation.

if you consciously harness the energy of Mars, it can become a powerful force for accomplishing something significant.
