September 8 – Total Lunar Eclipse in Pisces

On September 8, we will witness a total lunar eclipse in Pisces, visible from Japan for the first time in three years.

A lunar eclipse happens when the Full Moon aligns with the nodal axis—the line of the lunar nodes, often called the Dragon’s Head and Tail. This time, the Moon is tightly conjunct the North Node, making this Full Moon an especially powerful eclipse.

Astrologically, eclipses near the nodes are seen as fateful turning points. They often bring encounters, opportunities, or changes that can alter the course of life.

Adding to the significance, this year we have two New Moons in Virgo, with the next one also being a partial solar eclipse. Altogether, this autumn feels like a layered season of destiny and transition.

In the chart for this eclipse, the Sun in Virgo and the Moon in Pisces both sit at the midpoint of their signs, allowing their energies to integrate more easily. The main theme this month is bringing your heart and your daily life into alignment.

This summer, I travelled with my daughter to Gujo

This summer, I travelled with my daughter to Gujo Hachiman, where we joined the Bon Odori dance—a festival with over 400 years of history.

In Japan, mid-August (13th–16th) is Obon, a time to welcome and honour the spirits of our ancestors. Across the country, people gather in yukata, joining festivals, fireworks, and Bon dances. In Gujo, the Bon Odori continues for an entire month, and during Obon itself, the dancing goes on from 8pm until 4am.

Astrologically, this season coincides with the so-called “Dog Days” abroad, and in the spiritual community, the Lion’s Gate Portal. This year, Jupiter and Venus were both in Cancer, emphasising themes of family, gratitude, and connection with our roots—perfectly aligned with the essence of Obon.

Japan’s summer is also a time of remembrance: Hiroshima on 8 August, Nagasaki on 9 August, and the end of WWII on 15 August, right in the middle of Obon. For us, this season holds both joy and reflection.

In Gujo, I saw visitors from overseas dancing in yukata with bright smiles. It truly felt like a scene of world peace. I hope many more people will experience this unique atmosphere.
